Purdue employee finds missing Elliott Hall equipment

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue University Police Department today (Wednesday, Sept. 1) recovered a video camera and accessories that were stolen from Elliott Hall of Music last weekend.

Deputy Chief Steven R. Dietrich said a university maintenance worker found the missing equipment, including a Sony professional video camera, camera bag and accessories, in a trash bin outside of Tarkington Hall on Saturday (Aug. 28) night.

The employee did not realize the items had been taken from Elliott Hall, and when he saw news stories about the missing equipment, he contacted police.

The camera and accessories had been taken from a room adjacent to the stage in Elliott Hall sometime between 4:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday after employees inadvertently left a door unlocked.

Dietrich said there was no visible damage to the recovered equipment, which was valued at approximately $40,000.
