Golden Girl 50th anniversary keepsake poster available

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Free color posters celebrating 50 years of Purdue's Golden Girl tradition are now available at the Purdue Bands office in the Elliott Hall of Music, Purdue Visitor Information Center and the "Journal and Courier."

The keepsake poster features a photo of current Golden Girl Christy Stallings surrounded by star-shaped photos of the 23 other women who have twirled as Golden Girl. The design, created by Purdue Marketing and Communications designer Necia Ketterman, honors the contributions made by all the Golden Girls to bring the tradition to its golden anniversary in 2004.

Since the position's debut in 1954, the Purdue Golden Girl has enjoyed a national reputation for being one of the country's best twirlers.

The posters will continue to be available throughout the fall semester or as long as supplies last. All the former Golden Girls are expected to return to campus for a special celebration at Purdue's Homecoming on Oct. 16. A poster autograph session with the Golden Girls will be the same day from 1-2:30 p.m. on Engineering Mall as part of Purdue Homecoming activities.

The posters are a 50th anniversary gift to the community from Purdue University Bands, made possible by a gift from Jim Wallace, Gold River, Calif., said Kathy Matter, Purdue Bands public relations director.
