August 9, 2004 Successful grant writing workshop makes encore appearanceWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service will offer a two-day grant writing workshop on Sept. 1 and Sept. 29. Aadron Rausch, a Purdue Extension specialist and event coordinator, said former participants in "A Beginner's Guide to Grant Writing" have been successful. "In just three months, last year's participants received about $130,000 in funding based on proposals drafted during the workshops," Raush said. "From 2002 to 2003 participants reported more than $700,00 in funded proposals." The program will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. via IP videoconferencing from local Extension offices. Lunch is provided. Participating county offices include: Allen, Clinton, Decatur, Delaware, Harrison, Hendricks, Knox, LaGrange, Martin, Pulaski, Saint Joseph, Vanderburgh and Whitley. The program is also available at the Tipton Learning Center. The registration deadline is Aug. 16. "A Beginner's Guide to Grant Writing" will teach participants how to turn ideas into fundable proposals and give them an opportunity to review a proposal. "All organizations are beginning to rely on soft dollars to sustain their programs," she said. "This is an opportunity for people to stay close to home and learn the nuts and bolts of grant writing." Rausch said this workshop emphasizes finding funds and matching projects to potential grantors. Feedback from the program identifies proposal strengths and weaknesses as well as guides revisions and final submissions. "On the first day participants will learn a step-by-step process for developing ideas into fundable proposals," Rausch said. "On day two, they'll return with a completed proposal and move into the role of reviewer." Cost to attend "A Beginner's Guide the Grant Writing" is $85.
