Purdue holds Fall Welcome for transfer students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's Fall Welcome 2004 will be Saturday, Aug. 21, in the East/West Faculty Lounges of the Purdue Memorial Union for all transfer students from statewide campuses and other colleges and universities.

Students who attend the event, which runs from 1-5 p.m., will have the opportunity to meet other transfer students, as well as faculty and staff, before fall classes begin. Current students will give a panel presentation. Transfer students also can attend an information fair and campus tours given by student leaders from Orientation and New Student Programs.

"We're expecting 150 participants this year because the transfer population is larger," said Shawna Lusk, assistant director of orientation and new student programs. "Students are always happy that they went. Transfer students have different needs than freshmen, so Fall Welcome is more appropriate for transfer students than Boiler Gold Rush, which is a program for incoming freshmen."

Participants in Fall Welcome will have the opportunity to set up computer accounts, print class schedules and obtain student ID cards.

Purdue also has similar programs for transfer students starting in the winter and summer semesters.

Invitations for Fall Welcome were mailed in mid-July to all transfer students admitted to start in the fall semester.
