Purdue's surplus operation moves to new location

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University Surplus Sales has relocated to a new facility as part of the move of the university warehouse from its longtime home.

Both operations have moved from the storage complex on North Ninth Street Road to a newer, nearby facility on Sagamore Parkway. The former warehouses had been in use since 1968 and had fallen into a state of disrepair.

"The storage buildings were in very poor condition and in need of major repair," said Charles E. Sharp, who serves as Purdue's director of service enterprises and oversees the facility. "The new facility is a large step up and will allow people to view the surplus items much more easily."

Surplus Sales and the university storage facility are now located in the former Duncan Meter manufacturing building at 3601 Sagamore Parkway North. The new facility, which Purdue leases from INOK Investments, is most easily reached from North Ninth Street Road on the north side of Sagamore Parkway.

Sharp said most frequently sold items include computer equipment, office and residence hall furnishings and appliances, construction supplies and materials, bicycles, and many other miscellaneous items. The new facility is smaller than the former warehouses, and he said that could lead to a faster turnover among items for sale.

The surplus sales store is open to the public from noon to 4 pm Monday through Friday. For more information, call (765) 742-4414.
