Purdue graduates to participate in commencement ceremonies

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University will award degrees at five campuses and eight School of Technology locations throughout Indiana during commencement ceremonies this month.

Ceremonies are scheduled at the West Lafayette campus May 15-16. An estimated 5,835 degrees will be presented in four ceremonies, with 4,386 undergraduates, 200 professional degrees, 903 master's degrees and 346 doctorates.

University President Martin C. Jischke and Tamara Morse, president of the Purdue Alumni Association, will address graduates at each ceremony in the Elliott Hall of Music.

The commencement ceremonies will feature two large video screens above the Hall of Music stage. The screen will display a close-up image of each graduate as his or her dean awards their diploma.

Tickets, issued to graduation participants for family and friends, are required for admission.

The West Lafayette ceremony schedule is:

• Saturday, May 15, 9:30 a.m., schools of Science, Technology (West Lafayette campus only) and Veterinary Medicine. A class response will be provided by Stephen Lindemann, of Munster, Ind., a graduate of the School of Science.

• Saturday, May 15, 2:30 p.m., School of Agriculture and College of Engineering. A class response will be provided by Janelle Johnson, of Champaign, Ill., a graduate of the School of Agriculture.

• Sunday, May 16, 9:30 a.m., schools of Consumer and Family Sciences, Education and Management. A class response will be provided by Katie Bremer, of Middletown, Ohio, a graduate of the School of Management.

• Sunday, May 16, 2:30 p.m., schools of Liberal Arts, Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences. A class response will be provided by Scott Keller, of Brownsville, Wis., a graduate of the School of Liberal Arts.

Commencement videos for each school will be available. A VHS tape costs $20; a DVD costs $25. Postage and handling are an additional $5. Order forms are available at Purdue box offices and will be available from hall ushers at the ceremonies. The Hall of Music box office will accept order forms before and after each commencement ceremony.

Commencement times and locations at other Purdue campuses are:

• Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, 3 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at the RCA Dome. A total of 4,936 degrees will be conferred, with 915 Purdue degrees from the Indianapolis and Columbus campuses.

• Purdue North Central, 7:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at Valparaiso University Chapel, and at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at the Westville Correctional Center. During the ceremony at the Valparaiso University Chapel, 481 degrees will be conferred, and 36 degrees will be awarded at the Westville Correctional Center. This is the first year Purdue North Central will confer more bachelor's than associate's degrees, with 259 bachelor's and 222 associate's degrees.

• Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at the Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Center, where 724 degrees will be conferred.

• Purdue Calumet, 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at the Star Plaza Theater in Merrillville, where 605 degrees will be conferred.

School of Technology commencements at locations around the state will be:

• Anderson-Muncie, 3 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Warner Auditorium, Anderson University, where 20 degrees will be conferred.

• Columbus/SE Indiana, 7 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at the Columbus High School auditorium, where 44 degrees will be conferred.

• New Albany, 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, at the Knobview outdoor stage, where 28 degrees will be conferred.

• Kokomo, 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the Kelley Center, Indiana University, Kokomo (or at the Havens Auditorium if raining), where 50 degrees will be conferred.

• South Bend-Elkhart, 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the Joyce Center, University of Notre Dame, where 30 degrees will be conferred.

• Richmond, 6 p.m. Friday, May 14, at Richmond High School, where 31 degrees will be conferred.
