April 1, 2004 Purdue honors student staff for National Student Employment WeekWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Purdue University community will recognize student employees for their achievements on the job during National Student Employment Week, April 11-17. The National Student Employment Association and Student Employment Services in the Division of Financial Aid promote this event as a way to recognize the importance of the student work experience. On- and off-campus employers are urged to recognize the efforts of their student employees during the week. Joyce Hall, executive director of financial aid at Purdue, says there are many advantages and benefits both for the students who work and the employers who hire them. "Students are the primary beneficiaries of a college education," Hall says. "Many students invest in themselves through student employment." Earning a paycheck while going to school can help offset expenses and alleviate future loan indebtedness, Hall says. Working also can offer Purdue students a venue in which to utilize the knowledge attained in the classroom. "Employers benefit from the fact that they are getting responsible employees with a variety of pertinent skills and the confidence to use those skills in the completion of their job duties," Hall says. "We encourage all employers to recognize the contributions of their student employees during this important week."
