March 30, 2004 Deadline nears for Purdue tuition grant for part-time adult studentsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Thursday, April 15, is the application deadline for tuition grants for part-time adult students and non-traditional students at Purdue University through Span Plan Adult Student Services. The grant can assist first-time Purdue students in "getting their feet wet" in the academic world. Program participants also have access to counselors who assist beginning students with the transition to academic life. People interested in applying should schedule an appointment with a Span Plan counselor for further information regarding the course registration process and for a complete overview of services offered by Span Plan Adult Student Services. In addition to being adult, non-traditional, part-time students, applicants must not have a previous bachelor's degree, must be enrolled in at least one course at the Purdue West Lafayette campus or Statewide Technology Lafayette site for summer 2004, be in good academic standing, and have received fewer than four previous Span Plan grants. Applicants will be required to provide documentation verifying their income and financial need. The Span Plan Adult Student Services administrative office is within the Office of the Dean of Students. The program has been assisting and encouraging adult, non-traditional students at Purdue since 1968. Counselors can be reached at (765) 494-1257 or via e-mail at spanplan@purdue.edu. Applications can be picked up at the Office of the Dean of Students in Schleman Hall, Room 207, or can be downloaded from the Span Plan Adult Student Services Web site. April 15 also is the deadline for the Cecilia Zissis Graduate Student Grant, established in 1987 to recognize Zissis' 37 years of service to Purdue and her commitment to graduate students. The grant is available to part-time graduate students who demonstrate academic potential and financial need and are enrolled in at least one three-hour graduate course. The Cecilia Zissis Grant application can be downloaded from the SpanPlan Web site and also is available in Schleman Hall, Room 207.
