March 24, 2004 Rock band Kissinger coming to Purdue March 31WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Inde rock band Kissinger will take the stage on Wednesday, March 31, in the Purdue Memorial Union's North Ballroom as part of an annual concert event in which relatively unknown bands are invited to campus. Kissinger, a four-member group based in Austin, Texas, will perform from 8-11 p.m. Tickets for the concert, sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board, are $7 for Purdue students and $10 for general public. Tickets are available at the Loeb Playhouse box office or by calling (765) 494-3933. "This concert is a great opportunity for people who enjoy independent music or are curious about the genre," said PSUB adviser Heather Owen. "It's also a chance to come out and 'discover' a band that you may have never heard before." Kissinger was voted the best new band of 2000 by the "Austin American-Statesman" and in 2001 claimed three music awards from the "Austin Chronicle." In 2002 the group was voted Austin's best rock band and best alt/punk band. "I believe that Kissinger is definitely an up-and-coming band," said Brett Howard, PSUB director of concerts and a sophomore in the School of Liberal Arts. "I'm really excited to have them perform here at Purdue and know that it will be a great show." "Charmed," Kissinger's debut CD, was released in 2000 and was followed up by an interactive extended play disc titled "Rock and Roll Ain't Cheap." The group is scheduled to be in the studio this summer to record its next CD. In previous years, PSUB's Concert Committee has brought several lesser-known performers to campus, including Local H, Lisa Loeb, Ultimate Fakebook and Lucky Boys Confusion.
