March 24, 2004 Founder of Feed the Children to speak at PurdueWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's Department of Agronomy will feature Larry Jones, founder and president of Feed the Children, in an April 5 motivational seminar titled "Why Hungry Children in a World of Plenty?" "Jones is coming to Purdue to discuss the impact and challenges associated with these hunger relief efforts and the important role that U.S. agriculture plays in these efforts," said Craig Beyrouty, head of the Department of Agronomy. "Anyone interested in learning about the problems associated with world hunger is welcome to attend." The seminar, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 2 p.m. in the Krannert Auditorium on the West Lafayette, Ind., campus. Following the seminar, there will be a reception and an opportunity to ask Jones questions. In his talk, Jones will discuss his involvement with Feed the Children and issues associated with hungry children in the world. He also will talk about ways to become involved and how to make a difference by becoming a member of Feed the Children. Feed the Children is a nonprofit organization that provides aid and assistance to children and families in need. Last year the organization distributed 61 million pounds of food and 22 million pounds of other essentials to children and families in all 50 states and in 61 foreign countries in addition to supplementing 509,133 meals a day worldwide. Founded in 1979, Feed the Children is the 10th largest charitable organization in the United States, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy.
