The workshop will be facilitated by Kathryn Orvis, Purdue University assistant professor in the Department of Youth Development and Agricultural Education. The training session, designed to introduce and teach the JMG curriculum to adults interested in working with youth and gardening, will run from 6:30-9:30 p.m. EST at the Washington Community Building in Washington Eastside Park. Registration will start at 6:15 p.m. "Being a leader in JMG is a great way for adults to share their love and knowledge of gardening with youth," Orvis said. There are approximately 30 Indiana counties participating in the JMG program. The program is committed to helping young people become gardeners and contributing to citizens through community service and local projects. This training session is open to adults who are interested in working with youth and gardening in group settings that will vary in size. Groups are organized through public and private schools, home school groups and after-school programs, Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops for badge work, 4-H clubs, and YMCAs as an activity. After the training session, it is up to the leader how often groups meet and their involvement level. The workshop will provide more information and details about working with a group and getting started. For more information and to register go online and complete the registration form. Directions to the workshop location also are available at this site. There is a $20 workshop fee, which includes the workshop materials. The registration deadline is March 22. Student handbooks and leader manuals can be purchased through the Purdue Media Distribution Center online or by phone at 1-888-EXT-INFO.
