Students and community can learn to 'Lead With Style!'

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An expert in student diversity and leadership will help students and the public enhance their leadership abilities as part of Purdue University's Spring Leadership Lecture Series.

Vernon Wall, assistant dean of students at Iowa State University, will present "Lead With Style!" at 6:30 p.m. March 25 in the Purdue Memorial Union North Ballroom. The presentation, in which attendees will learn about their personal leadership style and the styles of others, is free and open to the public.

"We believe that all students, as well as staff, faculty and community members, have the ability to lead and that the qualities of a good leader must be developed and nurtured," said Bridget Williams Golden, assistant dean of students for student activities and organizations. "These lectures will help leaders learn new information as well as assist emerging leaders along their leadership path."

The event is co-sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students and Orientation and New Student Programs.

Currently assistant dean of students and director of student activities at Iowa State University, Wall has accumulated 19 years of professional student affairs experience at Iowa State, the University of Georgia and in the University of North Carolina system. He has experience in Greek life, new student orientation, student activities, leadership development and university housing.

Wall also is a senior consultant for The Washington Consulting Group, an agency specializing in multicultural organizational change, and is one of the founders and facilitators of the Social Justice Training Institute. He has written several articles and has co-edited two books for the higher education community: "Beyond Tolerance: Gays, Lesbians and Bisexuals on Campus" and the recently released "Toward Acceptance: Sexual Orientation Issues on Campus."
