March 10, 2004 School of Pharmacy awards presentedWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Seven Purdue University students recently were honored with School of Pharmacy graduate student awards. The awards, presented during a symposium, included the Kienly Awards for Excellence in Teaching and the Jenkins-Knevel Awards for Excellence in Research. The Kienly Awards were endowed in 1976 by the late Dr. Albert Kienly in honor of his parents as well as by an anonymous faculty gift. Dr. Kienly's father graduated from the Purdue School of Pharmacy in 1901. The Jenkins-Knevel Awards recognize the leadership that Glenn L. Jenkins and Adelbert M. Knevel provided to establish the standard of excellence in the School of Pharmacy's graduate programs. Jenkins served as dean from 1941 to 1966, and since that time Purdue has had the largest graduate enrollment and one of the world's most respected graduate programs in pharmaceutical sciences. Knevel, a former associate dean, was instrumental in promoting the research awards program. Purdue's School of Pharmacy was founded in 1884 and has the largest pharmacy graduate program in the nation.
