March 10, 2004 Purdue's 2003 highlights captured on videoWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The 49th edition of the Purdue Newsreel, a video collection of university highlights from 2003, is now available. The 22-minute program, produced by the Broadcast Services unit of the Office of University Relations, can be viewed on the Web or is available from the Instructional Media Center in the Purdue Undergraduate Library. The video also can be purchased from the Purdue Alumni Association (PAA). The video, "It's Happening Here," is sponsored by the Alumni Association, the Alumni Foundation and the Office of the President. It is shown to Purdue alumni clubs around the world. Tim Newton, a 1981 Purdue graduate and director of external relations and communication for the Krannert School of Management, narrates the 2003 newsreel. The video was produced and directed by Ray Cubberley, director of broadcast services in university relations. The program can be viewed on Purdue's Web site. A VHS tape of the newsreel can be purchased for $19.95 plus $3 for shipping and handling from the Purdue Alumni Association, Purdue Memorial Union, Room 160, 101 N. Highlights in the 2003 video include: an update on Purdue's $1.3 billion campaign; the dedications of Rawls Hall, Bowen Civil Engineering Laboratory and the Veterinary Emergency Center at Purdue North Central; the opening of the Visual and Performing Arts Building; the computer science virtual reality celebration; announcement of the Purdue Opportunity Awards Program for a student in each of Indiana's 92 counties; the kickoff of campaigns at Purdue's Hammond, Westville and Fort Wayne campuses; the kickoff of Purdue campaigns for the Lafayette community and for faculty and staff; Purdue Space Day; President Martin C. Jischke's tour of the Lafayette area; a talk by the Jordanian foreign minister; a dance workshop at the Black Cultural Center; research on an improved method of monitoring low birthweight babies and on the health benefits of eating peanuts; the new forensic science class; dedication of the renovated Humanities, Social Science & Education Library and the new Latino Cultural Center; commencement; Boiler Gold Rush; PAA's Senior Sendoff; renovations at Cary Residence Hall and changes at Earhart and Meredith residence halls; new administrators; and updates on groundbreakings and building construction.
