March 5, 2004 Deadline approaches for Alpha Chi Omega Arts ScholarshipWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Tuesday (3/9) is the deadline for Purdue students to compete for the $1,000 Alpha Chi Omega Arts Scholarship, which will be awarded April 4 at the University Honors Convocation. The award is open to freshmen, sophomores and juniors who plan to attend Purdue during the 2004-05 academic year, are either arts majors or are participating in an arts organization, and who have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and a GPA of at least 2.5 in the most recent semester. Faculty, staff, directors or mentors may nominate a candidate for this award or an individual may apply on their own. "We want to make sure students involved in the arts know this is a wonderful chance to get a financial bonus toward their Purdue education," said Reid Ricciardi, director of development for student services. The Purdue Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity, founded in 1918, established the endowment to honor the fraternity's heritage of music and the arts by awarding the annual scholarship. In addition to being recognized at the University Honors Convocation, the recipient will have his or her name inscribed on a plaque to be displayed in the new Visual and Performing Arts Building. A committee of representatives from the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, a representative of a student arts organization and two members of the Alpha Chi Omega Alumnae Board will select the winner. Interviews of the final candidates may be held at the discretion of the committee, which would require a brief presentation of the student's involvement in arts programs. Interested candidates are asked to submit a completed application and two letters of recommendation no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday (3/9) to: Alpha Chi Omega Arts Scholarship Award Committee, Office of the Vice President for Student Services, Schleman Hall, Room 204, 475 Stadium Mall Drive, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2050.
