March 2, 2004 Purdue Extension's Junior Pork Day set for March 6WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Novice 4-H members can get a head start on their swine projects during Saturday's (3/6) annual Purdue University Junior Pork Day. Primarily designed for new and younger members, the workshop will cover tips on selecting 4-H pigs, keeping pigs healthy, swine judging and meat evaluation. There also will be a seminar on pig handling and behavior taught by Ed Pajor, Purdue expert on animal well-being. The workshop will start at 9 a.m., and the day will conclude at 2:30 p.m. with an awards program for the top swine judges. Parents and chaperones are welcome to attend. The workshop fee is $5, and no preregistration is required. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. in the lobby of Lilly Hall. A complimentary lunch will be served at noon, sponsored by Armour Swift Eckrich. The workshop is a joint effort of the Purdue departments of Youth Development and Agricultural Education and Animal Sciences.
