February 23, 2004 Dozen companies to participate in Purdue Research Park Job FairWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Purdue Research Park Job Fair will have almost twice as many park companies participating in its high-tech job fair next week as it had one year ago. "Last year, only a handful of companies were able to discuss employment opportunities with the almost 300 job seekers in attendance. This year, a dozen companies are looking to fill positions," said Joseph Hornett, senior vice president and treasurer of the Purdue Research Foundation, the organization that administers the research park. "Although many of the jobs listed are more high-tech than mainstream, we're hoping that the employment needs of our companies reflect our state's improving economic situation." The job fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, in the park's Purdue Technology Center, 3000 Kent Ave. Purdue Research Park, Indiana's first Certified Technology Park, is home to the largest university-affiliated business incubator in the nation. In this incubation complex, emerging technologies many of them discovered at Purdue University are transformed into viable companies. Life sciences, information technology and advanced manufacturing ventures make up the majority of the more than 100 startup and established companies. Many of the park's high-tech companies are looking for employees with experience or education in the following fields: chemical, biomedical and biological engineering; pharmaceutical sciences; computer, biological and statistical sciences; information, industrial and mechanical technology; and specialties such as genetics or plant biology. Several of the park's information technology companies plan to hire qualified candidates immediately. Job openings include positions for computer software application developers and implementation consultants, Java programmers, a database administrator and developer, a technical graphic artist and a system administrator. Arxan Technologies Inc., a park venture that has developed technology to protect software applications against tampering, has a job opening for a software security analyst. Companies also are seeking an office manager, in-house accountants and individuals who have experience with customer support, sales and marketing. Other high-tech ventures within the research park, such as gh LLC and Cook Biotech Inc., plan to hire full-time employees later in the year. gh, an information technology company that has launched a product designed to make reading more accessible for people with disabilities, will be hiring summer interns as well as accepting resumes for future positions from individuals with degrees in the areas of quality control, computational science, engineering, computer sciences, computer technology, and organizational leadership and supervision. Although Cook Biotech Inc. does not have immediate openings, the tissue engineering firm will be accepting resumes for positions it expects to fill later this year from individuals holding doctorate degrees in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering and industrial engineering. Another life sciences company, SSCI Inc., is looking for chemists and a regulatory associate. Most companies participating in the job fair have available paid internships as well as regular full- and part-time opportunities. Most positions require a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree in the specified field. Job seekers are encouraged to bring their resume. For more information, visit the job fair Web site.
