NEWS MEDIA ADVISORY To: News Reporters From: Beth Forbes, news and public affairs coordinator Subject: Preliminary agriculture census data to be announced at news conference At 9 a.m. Wednesday (2/4) the National Agricultural Statistics Service office will provide reporters a first look at the 2002 Census of Agriculture preliminary report. The media briefing will be in Indianapolis at the Monte Carlo Room of the Holiday Inn Select, located at Michigan Road and Interstate 435. On hand to discuss the report will be Greg Preston, state agricultural statistician, and Chris Hurt, Purdue University agricultural economist. The briefing will cover specific information on farming in Indiana and across the nation. Topics to be discussed include farm numbers, what farms look like now, land use and ownership, and new information on spouses and their contributions to the farm. The preliminary data will be released nationally late on Feb. 3, with a complete report to be available in the spring. The last time the census was conducted was in 1997.
