Police seek information on pair claiming to be residence hall staff

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue police and university residence hall officials are investigating complaints of a man and a woman posing as resident assistants in Meredith Hall over the weekend.

Steven R. Dietrich, interim Purdue chief of police, said that between 10 p.m. Saturday (1/24) and 3 a.m. Sunday (1/25) several Meredith Hall residents were confronted in their rooms by the pair of impostors. Claiming to be writing disciplinary reports, the man and woman asked for students' names and other identifying information.

The suspects were described as a white man, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with blondish-brown curly hair, and a white female, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with long, highlighted, dark blond hair. Both were wearing green "University Residences" polo-type shirts, normally issued to food service staff, and were carrying clipboards.

"Any time you're asked for personal information, you should be certain who you are dealing with," Dietrich said. "If someone claiming to be a university representative requests information from you, ask to see their identification."

Anyone with information about these incidents should contact residence hall officials or the Purdue police at (765) 494-8221.
