January 22, 2004 Purdue Theatre offers school matinees of 'King Lear'WEST LAFAYETTE Tickets are now available for school matinees of Purdue Theatre's production of William Shakespeare's "King Lear," showing Feb. 20-28 in Loeb Playhouse. Weekday school matinees will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and Wednesday, Feb. 25. Each student attending will receive a study guide created for the production, which is directed by guest artist Peter Forster. Teachers can call Lori Sparger at (765) 494-3084 or check the theater Web site for more information. Last year more than 3,200 students from 25 Indiana counties, Illinois and Kentucky attended the high school matinee program. In the past 10 years Purdue Theatre has performed matinees for more than 18,000 students. Tickets also are on sale for evening performances of "King Lear" and the Sunday matinee. Shows open to the general public will be at 8 p.m. on Feb. 20-28, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Feb. 22. Tickets for the general public are $15 and $17. Senior citizen tickets are $11 and $13, and student tickets are $9 and $11. Tickets may be purchased at the Loeb Box Office in Stewart Center, or by calling (765) 494-3933 or toll-free at (800) 914-7469 (SHOW). Some tickets are available online at TicketMaster.com. Processing fees apply. Groups of eight or more may purchase general public tickets for $11. Tickets are $7 for groups of senior citizens or students. Groups can reserve discounted tickets by calling (765) 494-3084. "King Lear" is presented with support from the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, the Indiana Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Shaw-Burckhardt-Brenner Foundation.
