January 22, 2004 Sycamore Review brings Midwest fiction writer to campusWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Sycamore Review, Purdue University's national literary magazine, is bringing an award-winning fiction writer to campus. Beth Lordan will read from her new novel, "But Come Ye Back," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (1/29) in the John W. Hicks Undergraduate Library's Bookstall. The reading is free and open to the public. Lordan also will be signing copies of her new book from noon to 2 p.m. on Jan. 30 at Von's Books, 315 W. State St. Lordan, who teaches fiction writing at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, is the author of the novel "August Heat" and the story collection "And Both Shall Row." Her short fiction work has appeared in "The Best American Short Stories 2002," the Atlantic Monthly and Gettysburg Review. She has received a creative writing fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as an O. Henry Award for her short fiction. Sycamore Review, which is housed in the Department of English, is a journal for established and emerging writers and artists from across the United States. In 1997 the journal was given an honorable mention in the O. Henry Awards anthology "Prize Stories." Sycamore Review was founded in 1988 and is maintained by the Ann Griffith Lindsey Memorial Fund with additional funding from the Indiana Arts Commission, the Purdue English department, the School of Liberal Arts and private donations. Subscriptions are $12 per year for two issues and $14 per year for subscribers outside the United States. Back issues also may be purchased.
