Appointments and promotions

– Gretchen Bertolet has accepted the new position of speakers bureau coordinator for the Purdue News Service. Bertolet was previously employed by the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette as director from 1997-2001. She is treasurer of Breast Cancer Today and co-founder of Professionals in Communication.

– Stacy Clark has accepted the position of director of development, annual giving — Indianapolis. Clark was previously employed by the Indianapolis Zoological Society as manager of major gifts and corporate relations.

– Jerry L. Alberts has been appointed as director of corporate relations for the School of Technology. Alberts was previously employed by Wheeling Jesuit University as director of corporate and foundation relations, where he also taught grant writing as an adjunct professor, and received the WJU Glorium Award for Academic Excellence and Leadership.

– Timothy Houk Smith has been appointed underwriting coordinator for the Office of Advancement. Smith was previously self-employed as a marketing consultant and freelance writer. For his work, he earned the PBS Advertising & Promotion Award, as well as the Ohio Educational Telecommunications Commission Advertising Communications Award.

Campus activities

– Purdue's Visitor Information Center needs student volunteers to serve as tour guides. The tour guide callout meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Beering Hall, Room 2290.

– John Campbell, associate vice president for instructional computing, will give a talk titled "Pedagogy: From Paper to Pixels" at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, in the West Faculty Lounge in the Purdue Memorial Union. He will discuss the appropriate use of technology in teaching at the university level and will share novel approaches to using technology. He will also discuss trends in the use of technology on campuses around the country. For information call (765) 494-6969.

– Douglas Hurt, Head of the Department of History, will give the 2004 Richard A. Hadley Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee professional development presentation titled "Midwestern Distinctiveness" from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the Stewart Center, Room 206. His research interests are American agricultural and rural history, Native Americans and the American West.
