Hospitality, tourism management department offers lecture series

WEST LAFAYETTE – Purdue University's hospitality and tourism management department is bringing industry executives into the classroom.

The 2001 HTM Executives in the Classroom series strives to give students a sense of where the industry is, where it is going and what it takes to get there, said Raphael R. Kavanaugh, professor and hospitality and tourism management head.

The speakers are being showcased in the freshman-level introductory class in hospitality and tourism management. The public is invited as space allows.

"Students will have the opportunity of a lifetime to meet some of the most respected and dynamic leaders in the hospitality industry, as well as informal time when the speakers can share their experiences and knowledge of the industry, bringing the textbook material to life," Kavanaugh said.

"This year's distinguished speakers are known throughout the hospitality and tourism industry as leaders and innovators with a vision. They know the future lies in our students. That is why they are here and will continue to reach out."

The program kicked off today (Tuesday, 9/4) with Gerry Fernandez, founder and president of the Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance. He was to speak at 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Fowler Hall.
