Hoops legend Bill Russell to speak on leadership
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Basketball legend Bill Russell will be the featured speaker at a Purdue University dinner event in Carmel on Oct. 24.
Russell will speak at the Krannert School of Management's first Krannert Leadership Speakers Series. The former Boston Celtic great has written a current bestseller on leadership, "Russell Rules."
The event is at 6:30 p.m. at the Ritz Charles in Carmel, 12156 N. Meridian St. Russell's appearance tips off Purdue's Homecoming Weekend.
Purdue President Martin C. Jischke and Richard A. Cosier, dean of the Krannert School and Leeds Professor of Management, also will speak at the event. In addition, several Krannert School awards will be presented to alumni and faculty.
"At the Krannert School, we teach the kind of management leadership that Bill Russell personified on the basketball court," Cosier said. "So it is appropriate that he is our speaker at this inaugural leadership speaker series event.
"We are anxious to gain better exposure for the excellence of the Krannert School in the state of Indiana."
Russell played for the Celtics from 1956-69, leading the team to 11 world championships, including eight in a row. He also was the captain of the 1956 gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic team.
Tickets to the event are $135, or $1,250 per 10-person table. Corporate sponsorships for tables are sought. A sponsor reception starts at 5:45 p.m. Sixty dollars of each ticket price may be considered a charitable tax deduction, and net proceeds from the event will go toward student scholarships.
Ticket information and reservations are available on the Web or by contacting Melissa Evens, manager of speakers and events, (800) 893-4108, email@example.com.
The event is presented in cooperation with the Krannert School Alumni Association.
