Purdue 'Voices of Diversity' workshop series
begins July 11

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue University Diversity Resource Office will present six workshops, from July 11 through Aug. 22, designed to enhance diversity on campus and beyond.

The summer workshop series, "Voices of Diversity," seeks to raise awareness of diversity issues and to improve the skills in creating more welcoming classrooms, workplaces and communities. Purdue faculty, staff, students and administrators as well as community members are invited to attend the free programs.

"We designed these workshops with other champions of diversity to reach a broad range of constituencies at Purdue and to make certain every voice is heard," said Dorothy M. Simpson-Taylor, Diversity Resource Office director. "We wanted these workshops to address both intellectual and behavioral strategies for encouraging diversity."

The six featured programs, their times and locations are:

• "Bridging Diversity Hotspots in the Classroom," 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, July 11, Purdue Memorial Union, Room 136. Intended for faculty and teaching assistants, this workshop will examine ways of creating an inclusive classroom where both students and instructors feel comfortable.
