Purdue technology resources coming to Web

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University is looking to provide Indiana companies with information technology expertise they need now and in the future with a new Web site that should help business professionals connect with faculty experts.

"We have about 150 staff members at the West Lafayette campus involved in information technology teaching and research," said John Schneider, assistant vice president of industry research and outreach. "Most IT professionals around the state are not aware of the resources available to them. This Web site and other outreach programs are designed to help change that."

The IT research site already is making a list of faculty and staff and their areas of expertise available. Visitors also can review PowerPoint presentations that were originally made during a free, day-long workshop in October attended by more than 300 people.

Work on a interactive service to help businessmen connect with faculty and staff continues with the system scheduled to go online in December.

Purdue produces the highest number of IT graduates in the country and is a recognized leader in the field of information technology research and education. Established in 1962, Purdue's Department of Computer Sciences was the first of its kind in the nation. In addition, the West Lafayette campus is home to Purdue's Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS), a multidisciplinary center that was the first in the world to take a comprehensive approach to network and computer security.
