Purdue Repertory Dance Company
presents 8 premieres

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Repertory Dance Company (PRDCo) will present eight premieres in their winter dance concert, "Winter Works," Dec. 7-9 in the Experimental Theater, Stewart Center.

The performances are at 8 p.m. with a 3 p.m. matinee on Dec. 9. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for Purdue students, $6 for senior citizens and $4 for children under 13 years. They can be purchased in person or by phone from the Purdue Box Office at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-7469.

"Room in Common," a new work created by Carol Cunningham, professor and co-director of PRDCo, is a text-movement montage.

"The piece depicts emotional situations that individuals experience when trapped inside a general experience of frustration," Cunningham said.

Sally Wallace, professor of dance and co-director of PRDCo, will revive 1999's "Shapes from the Heart" and "Inside a Silence." "Shapes from the Heart" is a quintet that explores a range of emotions from tenderness to fierceness. The second piece is a duet about a relationship between a man and a woman.

Dance faculty member Holly Jaycox has created a piece that she says explores levels of connection between people and juxtaposes themes of separation.

Other premieres created by Purdue seniors and alumni are:

"Repress," a piece about slavery choreographed by Regan Mosher.

"Mottled," by Bess Mattern, a 2000 Purdue graduate, a dance about breaking out of one's own boundaries.

"Watch Out!," described by choreographer Paula Mills as "a large group work about uncertainty and bold determination."

An untitled piece by Jean Kucharzak set to Irish music by the Corrs.

"Transcending Pueuma," by Michelle Farris, which explores life after death.

"Feeling the Vibe," created by Purdue alumnus Edward Martin, is based on his dream about a night club.

PRDCo is the resident dance company of the dance division of the School of Visual and Performing Arts. The company is comprised of 30 student dancers, 6 student choreographers and 3 faculty choreographers.
