December 12: "Income Tax Management For Farmers In 2000"

Farmers can get some last minute tax-planning advice during the workshop which will be broadcast by live closed-circuit TV at locations throughout Indiana. The free workshop is from 7-9 p.m. and requires no advance registration. Workshop speakers include George Patrick, a Purdue Extension economist, and David Fret, a certified public accountant from Washington, Ind. Twenty county Extension offices are scheduled to host the workshop broadcast. Contact your local Extension office for locations.

January 4: Annual Illiana Vegetable Growers School

The event will highlight several vegetable crop concerns for commercial growers. Rick Foster, Purdue associate professor of entomology, will discuss keeping worms out of peppers and tomatoes. Rick Latin, Purdue professor of plant pathology, will review causes of disease in mustard, collard, and turnip greens. Other topics will include new vegetable varieties and genetically-engineered crops. A small trade show will feature representatives from seed companies, irrigation equipment businesses and other vegetable industry businesses. This event will be held at Teibel's Restaurant in Schererville, Ind. The school is sponsored by the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, the University of Illinois, and the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Purdue. Make $15 checks payable to the CES Educational Fund. The fee covers the cost of lunch and materials. January 6: Hoosier Sheep Industry Symposium

The latest information on raising sheep will be provided. The event will also include special youth sessions. This symposium will be held at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds, in Noblesville, Ind. It is sponsored by the Indiana Sheep Breeders Association, Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, and the Indiana Sheep & Wool Market Development Council. Full day registration, which includes an evening banquet, is $30 for adults, $25 for youths in third grade and older, and $12.50 for youths in second grade and younger. Morning and afternoon session registration is $15 for adults, $10 for older youths, and $5 for younger youths. All registrations include lunch.
