Vibbert, a 20-year veteran of Purdue, will assume her new position on December 1.
"Candiss Vibbert brings an extraordinary amount of experience and ability to this new position," said Jischke. "In addition to her broad and deep knowledge of Purdue and its missions, she possesses outstanding professional communication skills and a record of excellent performance in every position she has held. I feel very fortunate that she has agreed to join my staff."
As executive assistant to the president, Vibbert will coordinate the operations of the President's Office, serve as secretary to the Cabinet, oversee correspondence, respond to inquiries, supervise staff, and assist in a variety of activities as directed by the president.
Vibbert said she is looking forward to the challenge of her new job. "President Jischke has a clear and very exciting vision for Purdue, and I am very pleased that he has asked me to help realize that vision as part of his administrative team."
Vibbert has been an associate dean of the graduate school since 1998. She served as assistant dean from 1990-98 and director of undergraduate studies for the Department of Communication from 1985-90.
She has been responsible for coordinating efforts to provide Web-based application for enrollment to graduate school and for oversight of efforts to connect the graduate school to other academic units. Vibbert administered graduate school fellowships and awards and served as a contact for students and student groups on matters concerning their graduate education. She has also taught courses in the Department of English and Department of Communication.
Vibbert received a doctoral degree in rhetorical studies from the University of Iowa in 1981, a master's degree in communication from the University of Nevada in 1977 and a bachelor's degree in English from Indiana University in 1973.
