November 17, 2000 Appointments and promotionsCarol Cooper has accepted an appointment as associate director in Purdue's Division of Financial Aid. In her new position, she will oversee the office administration. She has been at Purdue since 1982, most recently serving as assistant director of scholarship administration within the Financial Aid Office. Campus activitiesThe Affirmative Action Office will locally sponsor a teleconference, "Question to the Supreme Court: Is Title II Unconstitutional?" at 2 p.m. Nov. 28. The teleconference will be conducted in Room 234, Potter Engineering Center. Curt Decker and Sharon Masling of the National Association of Protection and Advocacy Systems will discuss recent legislation that allows state employees to sue in federal court under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Joly, professor of horticulture, was selected as one of two north-central region recipients of the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Agricultural Sciences Excellence in Teaching award. Each recipient receives a $2,000 stipend to be used toward teaching improvements at their respective college or university. Joly was recognized for playing a role in the development of new teacher evaluation standards within his department and universitywide. He also mentors a group of Purdue faculty through the Teaching for Tomorrow Program. James B. Dworkin, Purdue North Central chancellor, has been elected to the National Academy of Arbitrators, a non-profit professional and honorary organization for labor-management arbitrators. Membership in the 600-member association, which emphasizes the highest levels of integrity, competence, honor and character, is limited to those who have demonstrated they are acceptable to both labor and management as neutral arbitrators or have made a substantial contribution to the understanding of arbitration and dispute resolution.
