Purdue Memorial Union hauls out the holly

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Student Union Board begins its 76th anniversary celebration with "2000 Holidays at the Union," Nov. 30 through Dec. 15.

The largest indoor natural Christmas tree in Indiana will be set up in the Union's Great Hall at approximately noon Thursday, Nov. 30. This year the tree is being donated by Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Overly, Lafayette. Once decorating is completed by Union staff on Dec. 1, visitors can enter a "Guess the Lights Contest" for a chance to win prizes. The tree will stay lighted through Dec. 15.

The annual "Breakfast with Santa" will be 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, in the La Posada dining area on Union's ground floor. Children can sit on Santa's lap and get free Christmas goodies. The Union Market is offering three special breakfast meals for $1.85.

Sounds of the season will fill the Great Hall from Dec. 4 through Dec. 8. Concerts will be presented daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature local choirs, bands and soloists. Santa and his elves will visit and pass out candy canes.

"Holidays Around the World" comes to the Union from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the East Main Lounge. Groups will hand out free food samples and set up booths to inform people about holiday celebrations that occur this time of year, including Hanukkah, Chinese New Year, Dawali, Christmas and Navidad.

All events are free and open to the public.
