November 16, 2000 Elementary, middle school students competeHow does the Electoral College system work? More than 200 Indiana elementary and middle school students could probably answer that question. They've been studying to prepare for the "We the People Competition" on Friday (11/17) at Purdue University. The event will begin at 12:45 p.m. in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. A final match to determine the overall winner will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 302. The competition, in which students are quizzed on their knowledge of the U.S Constitution, is cosponsored by Purdue's James F. Ackerman Center for Democratic Citizenship and Indiana University's Center for Law-related Education. Attica Elementary School, Zionsville Middle School and Brownsburg's St. Malachy Middle School each have several groups competing that have prevailed in school district competitions. The winning group from this 7th Congressional District competition will advance to the state championship. CONTACT: Kathy Reppert, Ackerman Center, (765) 494-4755.
