Purdue president to address ag alumni
in Southern Indiana

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University President Martin C. Jischke will be the featured speaker Nov. 28 during the Southern Indiana annual meeting of the Purdue Agricultural Alumni Association.

The meeting, which will include a buffet dinner, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Jasper, Ind. The post is located at 1907 Newton Street. The meeting's first half-hour will be registration and a get-acquainted time, with dinner starting at 7:30 p.m.

Prior to succeeding Steven Beering in August to become Purdue's 10th president, Jischke had been president at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, since 1991. Since arriving at Purdue, Jischke has spoken to many groups sharing his mission for the university.

Also on hand for the event will be Dean of Agriculture Victor Lechtenberg, who will report on the latest developments in the School of Agriculture. Ag Alumni Executive Secretary Donya Lester also will discuss upcoming alumni events, including plans for activities surrounding a post-season Purdue football bowl game.

Tickets for the dinner meeting are $9 per person and may be purchased at county Extension offices. The buffet will feature items such as fried chicken, roast beef and dessert. Counties included in the event are Knox, Daviess, Martin, Lawrence, Orange, Dubois, Pike, Crawford, Perry, Spencer, Warrick, Vanderburg, Posey and Gibson.

All alumni and friends of the Purdue School of Agriculture are welcome to attend, but advance reservations are required. All junior-high and high-school students will be admitted free, but should register in advance.

Free items to be presented will include a Purdue basketball weekend package that includes two game tickets and an overnight hotel stay, as well as footballs and basketballs autographed by Purdue coaches.
