Workshop offers beef producers management tips

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Beef producers in southern Indiana can learn ways to better manage their operations at a workshop sponsored by Purdue University Extension.

The workshop will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday (11/9) at the Southern Indiana Purdue Ag Center farm in northeastern Dubois County; near the Patoka Lake dam.

This sixth part in the SIPAC 2000 Field Day Series will focus on cow/calf management issues.

"The goal of the series is to provide timely information to cattle producers so that they can improve their management practices and their general operations," said James Peter, Dubois County Extension educator.

The program will cover information on herd management, cost reduction strategies, improving production efficiency and maintaining an environmentally sound production system.

Purdue specialists, Extension educators and producers will discuss:

  • Body condition scoring your cows.
  • Winter strategies for feeding cows.
  • Using hay analysis results for winter rations.
  • Fall calving cows.
  • Post-weaning calf performance results.

This workshop is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Peter at (812) 482-1782, or James.Peter@ces.purdue.edu.
