October 27, 2000 Organization honors The Purdue chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First Year Students has won a national award for their activities during the 1999-2000 school year. The Order of the Torch Award was presented to five of the society's 225 chapters; Purdue University, George Mason University, Kent State University, Youngstown State University and Dickinsen College. Paige Colby, now a junior psychology major from San Diego, Calif., served as president of the Purdue chapter last year. Alpha Lambda Delta emphasizes that educated people have a responsibility to "have tolerance in their dealings with all people, generosity in giving to those in need and insight into the feelings of otheres." The society is open to full-time freshman students who earn a scholastic average of 3.5 or better at a four-year college or university. Once initiated, the individual holds a liftetime membership.
