IBM peer program recruits Purdue students

What's it like to have a freshly-minted Purdue University diploma and a steady paycheck from IBM? Ask Lisa Fowler.

Tonight (10/26), Fowler, three other women Purdue engineering graduates employed by IBM and one co-op program student will participate in a panel discussion sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers. The discussion begins at 7 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 206.

The event coincides with IBM's "Peer-to-Peer" Program. The program unites recent Purdue graduates with current students who may be prospective IBM employees. Recent graduates will conduct on-campus interviews and information sessions – primarily with engineering, technology, computer science and business students – Friday and Saturday (10/27 and 10/28). The sessions take place at the Purdue Memorial Union.

Through various activities, visiting Purdue alumni and current Purdue students will be able to discuss career possibilities, learning opportunities, benefits and other aspects of IBM employment.

The "Peer-to-Peer" Program is part of a nationwide recruitment campaign to attract entry-level engineers and scientists. As of September 2000, IBM needed to fill approximately 600 new jobs in electrical and chemical engineering, material science, circuit design and other network technology.
