Space Center director gives Boeing Lecture

Roy D. Bridges Jr., director of the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, will give a lecture titled "Kennedy Space Center: Constructing a Future" at 3 p.m. Thursday (10/26) in Fowler Hall, Stewart Center.

The media are invited to attend.

Bridges, a Purdue graduate, will provide a personal view of NASA's Spaceport Technology Center. He is responsible for managing all NASA facilities and activities at the space center related to processing and integration of NASA payloads flown on both shuttle and expendable launch vehicles, final development and preparation of international space station elements to be flown aboard the shuttle, and for developing spaceport technologies to improve safety and reduce cost of access to space.

He was the pilot of the Spacelab-2 mission in 1985 and flew 226 combat missions in Vietnam. Bridges was honored by Purdue University as a distinguished engineering alumnus in 1998 and an outstanding aerospace engineer in 1999.

The lecture is the 2000 William E. Boeing Distinguished Lecture presented by the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
