Appointments and promotions

–  Curt Overpeck was hired as the first director of the new Digital Enterprise Center in the School of Technology. His primary responsibilities include establishing a working model of the digital enterprise and developing collaborative relationships with business and industry. Prior to joining Purdue, Overpeck was vice president and chief information officer for Cannon Cochran, an insurance services firm. Overpeck holds a bachelor of science degree in industrial management from Purdue and a master of business administration degree from Eastern Illinois University.

Faculty and staff honors

–  John W. Hatcher, Krannert School assistant professor of management, has been named the state's Outstanding Accounting Educator by the Indiana CPA Society. The official presentation took place at the CPA Celebration 2000 in Indianapolis on Oct. 13.

–  Alexander H. King, head of Purdue's School of Materials Engineering, has been elected president of the Materials Research Society. He first will serve as vice president, effective in 2001, and in 2002 he will become president, a post that lasts for one year. The international society has about 13,500 members.
