Convos offers opportunity to stretch and eat

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Convocations will offer a "Dance for Non-Dancers" workshop at noon Nov. 3 in the North Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union.

The workshop is free and open to the public. An optional lunch following the workshop is $3. Reservations are required by calling (765) 494-9712 by Oct. 31.

"Dance is exercise as an art form," said Sally Wallace, assistant professor of dance. "We will teach exercise in terms of dance movement. Dance is really about celebrating the moment and, in most exercise classes, you are not doing that. When people leave a class like this, they go away happy and smiling.

"Plus," she added, "participants get a sense of what a dancer's life is like. So, when they see dance on a stage they will have a little bit of an idea of what goes into training for dance."

Wallace and Carol Cunningham, associate professor of dance, will conduct the workshop.

"The class is being offered to set our brains and feet in motion for the Royal Winnepeg Ballet performance of 'Dracula' on November 4," said Barbara Mayoras, audience development associate of Convocations. "No dance experience is needed. This is intended to be a lunch break activity, and no special dress is required. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the dance form and to do some moving and stretching."

Tickets for "Dracula" are $21 to $33 for general public and $12 to $17 for Purdue students. Tickets are on sale at box office locations or charge by phone at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW.
