Oct. 26-27: Technology for today's septic systems: a public forum

Purdue and the Indiana Onsite Wastewater Professionals Association (IOWPA) are sponsoring a conference for wastewater professionals and homeowners on non-traditional septic systems. Sessions will be offered on pretreatment systems such as constructed wetlands, filters and aeration treatment systems. The event will be at the Kokomo (Ind.) Convention Center. Nov. 1-4: Venison workshop

Purdue Chef Emeritus Hubert Schmieder is presenting workshops across the state to teach the proper way to butcher and cook venison. The dates, locations and contacts for these workshops are:

Nov. 1-Dec. 1: 2000 Purdue University Income Tax schools

Two-day workshops on income taxes will be in various locations throughout November. New tax developments will be discussed. Part of the program will focus on new legislation; recent rulings and cases; and tax legislation taking effect for the 2000 and 2001 tax years. Anticipated fees are $198 with the early registration discount. The dates and locations are as follows:

Nov. 11: Barn again!

Purdue University is hosting this workshop in Miami County, home of circus barns, the farms of Cole Porter, the treaty houses of Miami Indian chiefs, and home of Frances Slocum. The workshop starts at 9 a.m. at the Blair Point Elementary School in Peru, Ind. It ends at 4:30 p.m. after a tour of five barns. The cost is $25 per person, which includes lunch and a packet of materials. Registration is due by November 6 and the form must be obtained from Janet S. Nov. 13, 14 & 16: Purdue University Hands-on post harvest training and recertification workshop

The Indiana Grain and Feed Association, and Purdue Cooperative Extension Service are offering continuing education workshops for the grain and pest management industries. The all-day workshops, at three locations, will help people better understand crop management. Dates and locations are:

Nov. 13– Post Harvest Education & Research Center, Agronomy Research Center, US 52 North, West Lafayette, Ind.

Nov. 14– Southwest- Purdue Ag Center, 4369 N. Purdue Rd., Vincennes, Ind.

Nov. 16– Northeast- Purdue Ag Center, 4821 E. County Road 400 S., Columbia City, Ind.

There is a $70 preregistration fee, due by November 5. On-site registration is $80. Registration is limited and preregistration is recommended. Lunch is not provided.
