September 22, 2000 Insurance adjusters assessing student vehiclesWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Insurance adjusters are meeting with Purdue University students this week and next week to assess damage cause by metal filings stripped from the water tower in Tower Acres. Employees of Frontier Adjusters have scheduled appointments to evaluate vehicles at the parking lots of Delta Delta Delta, Phi Kappa Theta, Delta Zeta, Gamma Phi Beta and Theta Xi. The appointments started Monday (9/18) and will run through at least Wednesday (9/27). More than 200 appointments have been scheduled so far. United Coating and Linings of Cincinnati was hired to strip and repaint the water tower. The water tower was covered during the repainting process to keep the debris contained. However, wind apparently allowed some of the material to escape, said Joseph Woody, construction superintendent for Purdue Facilities Planning. The project has been postponed until after next spring semester in response to concerns about perceived health hazards and property damage. Woody said his office will continue working with student groups on the situation. Representatives of student groups have been given contact information for the adjusters. Individuals, including those not associated with student groups, can contact the Purdue Construction Department, (765) 494-7159, with questions or concerns.
