Theatre helps high-school students get into the act

WEST LAFAYETTE – High School Workshop Day on Sept. 30 will provide Indiana high-school students with the opportunity to work with seasoned theater professionals from Purdue University's theatre division.

The free workshop runs from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Stewart Center on the West Lafayette campus. Workshop space is limited and reservations are due by Sept. 25.

Purdue faculty members will present workshops for students in a variety of areas including acting, production design and technology, and stage management. Workshop titles include Auditions: the Art of Selling, Acting Shakespeare, Scene Painting and Dialects.

The combined theatrical experience of the Purdue faculty makes this event a rare opportunity for students to work with professionals who have put their talents to the test in the real world of professional theater.

As an added bonus, students who participate in the Workshop Day are invited to attend the matinee performance of the season's first Mainstage production, "Bus Stop," at a reduced price.

For a complete list of workshop selections, and to receive registration forms, call (765) 494-3084 or e-mail theatre@purdue.edu.
