September 15, 2000 Theatre's Mainstage season opens with a love storyWEST LAFAYETTEPurdue Theatre kicks off its 2000-01 Mainstage season this month with William Inge's classic, comic love story "Bus Stop." In the middle of a howling snowstorm, a nightclub singer, a belligerent cowboy, the proprietor of a roadside diner, a bus driver, a middle-aged scholar and a young girl come together. This riotous romp is expected to make audiences laugh and cry with its entertaining tapestry of characters. The film version of "Bus Stop" starred Marilyn Monroe. "Bus Stop" plays in the Experimental Theatre, Stewart Center, Sept. 21 through Oct. 1. Tickets cost $11 and $13 for the general public. Student and senior citizen tickets cost $7 and $9. A sneak preview will be presented Wednesday (9/20). All tickets for that show are $4.50. Tickets may be purchased at the Loeb Box Office, Stewart Center, or by calling (765) 494-3933 or toll-free at 800-914-SHOW. Richard Sullivan Lee, associate professor of theater, directs the production. Lee's last directorial assignment at Purdue Theatre was for the Studio production "The Serpent" in the Black Box Theatre. He appeared on stage in last season's Mainstage opener, "The Time of Your Life." "Bus Stop" features a largely undergraduate cast with a design team made up of graduate students in the Professional Actor Training Program and Purdue Theatre faculty members. Tickets are on sale now for Purdue Theatre's 2000-01 Mainstage season as well as separately for "Bus Stop." Season subscribers receive tickets to all four Mainstage shows at a substantial discount as compared with single show ticket purchases. Mainstage season subscriptions are $36 for adults, $24 for students and senior citizens. CONTACT: Lori Sparger, Purdue Theatre marketing director, (765) 494-3084; theatre@purdue.edu
