Appointments and promotions Troy Bacon and John K. Cox have been appointed patrol officers with the Purdue Police Department. Bacon, formerly with the Frankfort Police Department, earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue in law and society with a minor in psychology. He also is an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy graduate. As a student, Bacon served as a member and trainer with the Purdue Student Security Patrol and was a Purdue varsity football player. Cox came to the Purdue department after a 13-year affiliation as a forensic evidence technician with the West Lafayette Police Department. He attended Vincennes University, pursued course work at Purdue and is an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy graduate. He also will assume an elected part-time position as the Benton County coroner in 2001. Dennis M. Shepard and Sarah A. Sheppard, veteran members of the Purdue Police Department, have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Shepard, an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy graduate, has been with the department for 14 years. He serves as an instructor of defensive tactics and emergency vehicle operations. He also is a guest coordinator and instructor for the emergency vehicle operations course at the academy. Sheppard is a four-year member of the department. She is a Purdue alumna and graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. As a student, she was a supervisor for the Purdue Student Security Patrol.
