August 23, 2000 Purdue police seek attempted-theft, threat suspectWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University police are searching for a suspect who reportedly threatened two men in an early-morning attempted-theft incident today (Wednesday, 8/23) in the Northwestern Avenue Parking Garage. Capt. Ronald J. Fosnaugh said the two victims told police they discovered the suspect rummaging through their car in the garage sometime after 3 a.m. As they confronted the suspect, they said he left the vehicle displaying a knife. The suspect then fled on foot out of the garage and northbound on Grant Street. No one was injured and nothing was reported missing from the car. The two men reported the incident to an officer making a routine patrol of the garage. Fosnaugh said the victims described the suspect as a white male, age 20 to 23, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 150 to 160 pounds. He had short, dark hair and was wearing blue jeans, a dark gray long-sleeve shirt, brown hiker boots and a sock cap. A composite sketch of the suspect is being developed.
