Purdue police arrest visitor on entry, battery changes

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University police arrested a campus visitor Thursday night (8/17) on preliminary charges of residential entry, battery and domestic battery in connection with a residence hall room incident.

Capt. Ronald J. Fosnaugh said Adam W. Patyk, 19, of Gary, was arrested in Harrison Residence Hall, questioned and taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail. Cash bond was set at $500; surety bond was $5,000.

Patyk does not have a Purdue affiliation.

Patyk allegedly forced his way into a male student's room about 10 p.m. and attempted to hit him, scratching his face. Fosnaugh also said the male victim sustained a back bruise after Patyk pushed open the door after the resident answered it and shoved him, causing him to fall over his desk and land on a bed footboard. Patyk's girlfriend was in the room as well. She said Patyk put his hands around her neck at some point during the altercation.

A residence hall counselor separated the two men and called police.

Fosnaugh said residential entry is the most serious of the three charges Patyk may face. It's a Class D felony, punishable by up to three years in prison and/or up to a $10,000 fine.
