What's going on with electricity deregulation?

San Diego residents have seen their electric bills double since California deregulated its electric utilities. Now there is talk in California about reregulation of utilities. What are the pros and cons of deregulating utilities in Indiana, and how would Hoosiers be affected? Janet Netz, an economics professor in Purdue's Krannert School of Management, can discuss current deregulation in the contexts of economic theory and history. Frederick T. Sparrow, a professor of industrial engineering at Purdue, has worked with the State Utility Forecasting Group to develop methods for predicting future growth in electricity use in the state and region.
