August 11, 2000 Appointments and promotions Richard A. Cosier, dean of the Krannert School of Management and Leeds Professor of Management, has accepted appointment to the Business Accreditation Committee of AACSB The International Association for Management Education. The organization provides accreditation for undergraduate and graduate business administration and accounting programs. More than 300 colleges and universities are AACSB members. Cosier's term began July 1 and runs through June 30, 2003. Faculty and staff honors Raphael R. Kavanaugh, Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management professor and head, has completed a three-year term of leadership with the International Council of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Educators. He was recognized for his efforts at the organization's conference in New Orleans in July. Kavanaugh was chairman of the board in 1999-2000, following one-year terms as the organization's president-elect and president. Kavanaugh also is serving as a judge for the Industry of Choice Awards, which recognize companies for creative and innovative development of programs that enhance employee satisfaction in the areas of personnel, training and education, and food service operation. Nicholas A. Peppas, the Showalter Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, has received the General Electric Senior Research Award. The award honors Peppas for fundamental and prolific contributions to polymer engineering and science, biomedical engineering, and pharmaceutical engineering. His research has led to the development of new biomaterials and medical devices, including artificial vocal cords, contact lenses, linings for artificial hearts, artificial cartilage and a wide range of drug delivery devices, including the recently commercialized oral insulin-delivery systems. Peppas received the award in June. He has been on the Purdue faculty since 1976.
