EVENTS Friday, Aug. 11. 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Purdue Gateways Program awards reception honoring the launch of two companies OptoLynx Inc. and gh llc. in the Purdue Research Park business incubator system. Purdue Technology Center, 3000 Kent Ave., West Lafayette. Refreshments will be served in the large conference room. ** Saturday through Thursday, Aug. 12-17. Boiler Gold Rush. An optional freshman orientation program organized by the Office of Admissions during the week before fall classes begin. Saturday, Aug. 19. 7 p.m. President's Gala at the Elliott Hall of Music. New Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will welcome new students to the West Lafayette campus following a parade through University Residences. ** Thursday, Aug. 24. 4 p.m to 6 p.m. Black Cultural Center's Cultural Arts Series: BCC Boilerfest New Student Orientation. BCC parking lot. Purdue students will have the opportunity to "get connected" with the African-American community. The event helps students learn about student organizations and meet a variety of resource people. LECTURES ** Wednesday, Aug. 23. 12:30 p.m. Jewish Studies Program Noon Lecture Series: Morris Pollard presents "A Dreyfus Affair - American Style." Room 320, Stewart Center. Pollard, a professor emeritus from the University of Notre Dame, is the father of convicted spy Jonathan Pollard. His presentation will include a review of his son's case and how it was managed. Seating is limited. CONFERENCES ** Tuesday, Aug. 15. 1 p.m to 2:30 p.m. Union Environments and the ADA. Room 202, Knoy Hall of Technology. Teleconference featuring Andrea Haenlin Mott, ADA Training Coordinator for the Program on Employment and Disability for the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University. SEMINARS ** Friday, Sept. 1. Noon to 1 p.m. "Entrepreneurs' Forum," sponsored by the Office of Technology Commercialization. Room 313, Stewart Center. Monthly, hour-long seminar invites faculty, staff, students and other interested individuals to network and learn more about how to start a company. Speakers are entrepreneurs, investors or consultants who work with new business ventures, primarily in the Purdue Research Park's business incubator system.
