Beering to preside over his last commencement

Purdue President Steven C. Beering will oversee his final graduation ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Elliott Hall of Music. Beering spoke at seven graduation ceremonies each year at the West Lafayette campus, plus ceremonies at the Calumet, North Central, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis campuses. He gave a different speech at each event, tailored to the group of new graduates. Beering has been the only Purdue president to oversee a summer commencement.

Approximately 1,070 Purdue University students will be eligible to receive degrees during commencement ceremonies. Purdue Alumni Association President Thomas J. Carroll, Carmel, also will address the new graduates during the ceremonies. Jennifer Elizabeth Harting Ward, West Lafayette, will give the student response. She will earn a doctoral degree in chemical engineering. CONTACT: Kathy Munn, assistant registrar, (765) 494-8219, kmunn@purdue.edu
